Find out if you're Pre-Diabetic Once and For All

The official definition of being Pre-Diabetic is that it is a “pre-diagnosis” of diabetes - a warning sign. It’s when your blood glucose level (blood sugar level) is higher than normal, but it’s not high enough to be considered diabetes.
Most of us don't know what normal is so here is a table to you give you some idea.

Target Levels by Type Upon Waking Before Meals 90 Mins After Meals
Non Diabetic
4-5.9 mmol/L
under 7.8 mmol/L
Pre Diabetic 5.6-7.0 mmol/L
Type 2 Diabetic
4-7.0 mmol/L
under 8.5 mmol/L
Type 1 Diabetic
5-7.0 mmol/L
4-7.0 mmol/L
5-9.0 mmol/L
Children w/ Type 1
4-7.0 mmol/L
4-7.0 mmol/L
5-9.0 mmol/L
But what do these numbers mean?
The mmol/L measurement is the standard measurement in the UK for Glucose in the Blood. In Europe and USA Glucose is measured by mg/dL so don't get worried when testing and very high numbers come out. Just divide the large number by 18.
I think I'm Pre Diabetic - I am classified obese with a BMI of 33, I eat better than I did 5 years ago but I don't eat as well as I know I could. I don't drink as much as I used to but I do drink. I do have a sweet tooth and some afternoons I can experience a sugar crash when hungry.
However because we sell a lot of different type of glucose monitors I regularly check my Glucose and it appears that I am not pre-Diabetic. I also don't believe I don't have any family history of Diabetes on both sides. Does that mean I can drink, eat and party more than the next man? Probably not.
Rather than go to the expense of buying a glucose monitor I'd recommend 3 routes that we've put together
Simple Blood Glucose Test (Pack of 2) - This test will just tell you whether your blood glucose is within the normal limits - Simple Finger Prick gives you the answer quickly. Test can be found here
Urine Test for Glucose - Check the Glucose level in your Urine if you don't like the idea of pricking your finger. In the pack is a colour chart to measure whether your glucose is below 5.5 mmol/L or above. This can signify an Issue that needs to be looked at.
Get the Diabetes Test of 2 urine strips here or continually test yourself with a 100 strips here
DNA test for Family History of Diabetes Type 2 - I'm pretty sure I'm not Diabetic because I have no family history. We've introduced this useful test in partnership with our Finnish friends at Medigoo. This DNA Test spots the presence of a particular gene that shows the possibility of hereditary Diabetes. We'll send you the sample collection kit, you swab your mouth for a saliva sample and then send it off in the enclosed paid for envelope to a state of the art DNA Lab in Finland.

I did it and as I thought I am low risk. I'm off to gorge myself on chocolate and cakes.
